Goa has two airports now. That confuses a lot of travellers. Here’s a simple breakdown to help you pick the right one.
The Quick Answer
Mopa Airport (Manohar International Airport) handles most flights today. It sits in North Goa, near Pernem. Dabolim Airport is older and sits in South Goa, near Vasco. It still runs some flights, but fewer than before.
If you’re booking a new ticket, check which airport your airline uses. Don’t assume it’s Dabolim just because that’s the airport you remember.
Where Each Airport Is Located?
Mopa is in North Goa. It’s close to beaches like Baga, Calangute, and Anjuna. If you’re staying in North Goa, Mopa saves you time.
Dabolim is in South Goa. It’s closer to beaches like Colva and Palolem. If your trip is based in South Goa, Dabolim might work better for you.
Which Airlines Fly Where
Most major airlines have shifted to Mopa. This includes most domestic and several international routes. Dabolim still handles some flights, especially those linked to defense operations, since it’s a shared civilian-military airport.
Always check your ticket. The airport code matters more than habit or memory.

From Mopa Airport:
- Calangute/Baga: about 30 km, 35–45 minutes
- Anjuna: about 33 km, 40–50 minutes
- Panjim: about 35 km, 45 minutes to 1 hour
From Dabolim Airport:

- Palolem: about 40 km, 1 hour
- Panjim: about 30 km, 40–50 minutes
If your hotel is in North Goa, Mopa cuts your drive time. If it’s in South Goa, Dabolim does the same.
What If You Need Both Airports?
Some trips require flying into one airport and out of another. This happens more than you’d think, especially with connecting flights or specific airline routes.
If this applies to you, plan your ground transport early. The drive between Mopa and Dabolim takes about 2 hours. Build in extra time if you have a tight connection.
A Few Things Locals Know
- Mopa is newer and larger. It has more modern facilities, extra runway capacity, and room to grow. This is part of why most airlines moved their flights here.
- Dabolim shares space with the Indian Navy. This means tighter security and some flight restrictions. Bigger jets and non-scheduled flights ended in 2023, and now the airport mainly handles a mix of domestic flights.
- Traffic patterns differ by season. During peak season (December–January), both airports get busy. Book your airport taxi in advance either way.
